This document includes the latest trends in adventure tourism, especially in Ireland. The old perception that adventure tourism is not for every one is changing. Three segments of adventure tourism have emerged: extreme, family and soft adventures. Global economic downturn did not have much impact on adventure tourism. In Ireland, hill walking / hiking was the most popular activity among overseas visitors. Most of them walk less than five kilometers and without a guide. In 2009, angling was the most popular activity among British visitors to Ireland; cycling among travelers from Mainland Europe and walking among tourists from North America.
