Advance payment cannot exceed 50% of the total home stay booking tariff.

The Sikkim Registration of Home Stay Establishment Rule 15 (2013) fixes the amount the owner can collect as an advance for the home stay booking. The rule also prescribes cancellation fees.

Advance Payment Rules

If a visitor books a room for more than four days, the home stay owner can collect only half of the total approved tariff towards advance.

The owner shall confirm the booking after receiving the advance.

A Comment on Advance Payment Rules

Refund ranges from 0 to 90% for a cancelled home stay booking.

The rule does not specify advance amount for home stay bookings for four or less number of days.

It is good that one set of advance payment and refund rules apply to all classes of the Sikkim home stays.

Refund Rules

If the visitor cancels the reservation, the owner shall refund the advance as per the following rules within seven days of the cancellation request:

  • Refund 90% of the advance if the booking is cancelled 72 hours before the time and date of the arrival. (Rule 15-i)
  • Refund 75% of the advance if the booking is cancelled 48 hours before the time and date of the arrival. (Rule 15-ii)
  • Refund 50% of the advance if the booking is cancelled 24 hours before the time and date of the arrival. (Rule 15-iii)
  • Refund 0% of the advance if the booking is cancelled less than 24 hours before the time and date of the arrival. (Rule 15-iv)
