Are You Qualified to Work as Miscellaneous Adventure Activity Operator in Himachal Pradesh?

The Himachal Pradesh Miscellaneous Adventure Activities (Draft) Rule 4 (2016) lists essential qualifications for the  person who wants to work as a miscellaneous adventure activity operator (MAAO) in Himachal Pradesh. Let’s learn about the qualifications and decide whether you can be a MAAO or not.

Rule 4-1: Qualifications for MAAOs

MAAOs shall have qualified instructors or guides.

The qualified guides or instructors mean the persons who have

  • successfully completed Method of Instruction course from any recognized institute of state or national level, including
    • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), Manali, H.P.,
    • Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling,
    • Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, or
    • Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIMWS), Pahlgam
  • 2 years activity-specific experience
  • good track record

Rule 4-2: Qualifications for MAAO – Skiing

The MAAO shall have qualified skiing instructors or guides.

The qualified skiing guides or instructors mean the persons who have

  • successfully completed Methods of Instruction (Skiing) course from any recognized institute of state or national level, including
    • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), Manali, H.P.,
    • Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg,
    • Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (GMVN), Auli, or
    • Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIMWS, Pahlgam
  • 2 years activity-specific experience
  • good track record 

Rule 4-3: Advance Course Certificate Holders

A MAAO who has completed an advance course in any of the MAAs from a recognized state or national level institute may be registered without following the procedure.
