The room in Maurya Hotel was a pleasant surprise although it had a major flaw. Actually, I did not book it. I booked Preet Hotel in Daria from Oyorooms in April, 2017. But when I reached the hotel on May 19, the receptionist told me that all the rooms were occupied. He gave a room in the neighboring hotel, Maurya.
Both hotels are within a comfortable walking distance of the Chandigarh Railway Station.
The simple quiet Maurya room was appointed with all essentials. The tariff was INR 1,480 per day, per person, inclusive of complimentary breakfast and taxes.
Food at Maurya Hotel in Daria
I ordered one dinner from the in-house kitchen. Food was well-prepared. The kitchen staff cooked the seasonal vegetable the way I wanted.
In the morning, two yummy aloo paranthas (stuffed fried Indian bread) were served in the complimentary breakfast. Preet Hotel served the breakfast half an hour before its standard breakfast time (08:00 am) on special request.
Clockwise from Top: Tawa Chapatti (INR 10 per piece). Seasonal Vegetable (INR 85 per serving). Onion Salad (INR 25 per serving). Boondi / Bundi Raita (INR 50 per serving).
The AC Room
The double bed room was neat and clean. The airy bright room had a big window that opened within the courtyard.
But a pillar near window was annoying.
Clockwise from Top: A double bed AC room. A double bed, an intercom for room service, sockets for charging mobile, cameras… Sitting area, a big window, and an annoying pillar.
The modern attached washroom was very clean but had two major issues:
- It took long to drain the water from the washbasin in the attached washroom.
- Hot water tap ran very slow.
Service was prompt and good.
I may stay here again provided the hotel resolves the plumbing issue.
