Kangra trip planning experiences and tips (Part III): Bir accommodation booking

This is the third post in the 10-blog-post series focusing on helpful resources used for planning the Kangra trip starting from Chandigarh and problems we faced during the process. The series was started on Monday August 27, 2012.

Bir-Billing was the second stop on our itinerary. Bir also does not have many choices for accommodation but the choices are definitely more than that for Pragpur & Garli. We searched for “bir billing hotels.”

The Bir Resort topped the search results. We spoke to the Manager (Mr.) Ajay Rana over phone and found him friendly and knowledgeable. Since the resort mainly caters to foreign tourists during paragliding season starting from the last week of September and ending in November. The hotel was not available for the dates we selected for the destination. So we re-scheduled our itinerary as we were not happy with other two hotels in Bir: Colonel’s Resort and Surya Classic. We preponed our trip to Bir and booked a room in The Bir Resort.

We also found out addresses of guest houses and home stays. We tried to book one (Bhawani Guest House) over phone. But the owner’s reply was “come and meet me,” “We do not book over phone.” So we stopped searching for home stays.

We came to know about Surya Classic Hotel through our colleagues. But the hotel is in Main Bazaar on the main road. So we felt it would be noisy. We did not find its website either. We therefore did not book it although telephonic conversation with the hotel manager was pleasant.

Our verdict

If you are looking for clean safe budget accommodation, book The Bir Resort. Book the hotel room in advance.

You can even stay at Surya Classic if noise is not an issue.

If you like walk-in accommodation, try guest houses. Here is the list of guest houses in Bir.
