9-21% Increase in Leh Hotel Room Tariff

Increase in hotel room tariff in Leh, Jammu and Kashmir, India

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh revised maximum tariff for accommodations in Leh district for 2014. The increase in the room tariff varies from 9 to 21%. A nightly stay therefore requires INR 50 to 350 more in 2014 than that in 2013. Since the council announced maximum rates, bargain, especially for group and / or longer stays, is possible.

Guesthouses vs. Hotels 

Hotels offer tariffs for all meal plans. However, the guesthouses mainly offer EP (room only) tariffs. 

On EP basis, a double room in an economy guesthouse would cost INR 50 more per night in 2014 compared to the nightly tariff in the last year. Both medium and upper class guesthouses would charge one hundred rupees more in 2014 over the rates charged in 2013. The same increase applies to single rooms. 

Leh district offers rooms in five different types of hotels: Deluxe-A and A-, B-, C-, and D-class hotels. The tariffs for all hotels have been increased. For example, a double room in a hotel would at least cost INR 800 in 2014 as compared to INR 700 in 2013. The increase in a double room tariff ranges from INR 100 per night in C- and D-class hotels to INR 350 per night in Deluxe-A hotels. For instance, a double room tariff on EP basis increased from INR 3,100 per night in 2013 to INR 3,450 in 2014 for Deluxe-A hotel. 

On EP basis, single rooms in hotels would also be expensive. The tariff is up by INR 100 to 300 per night.

Double Room vs. Single Room 

A medium class guesthouse registered the highest increase in EP tariff of a double room (15.38%), followed by a D-Class hotel (14.29%), an upper class guesthouse (12.50%), and a Deluxe-A hotel (11.29%). 

Increase in EP tariff for single occupancy varies from 10% for a B-Class hotel room to 16.67% for a room in D-Class hotels and medium and upper guesthouses.

Room Plans 

The room only (EP) tariff shows a double digit increase irrespective of class or type of accommodation. The nightly EP tariff is up 10-16.67% in 2014 vis-à-vis that in the previous year. Interestingly, the increase is the maximum in single occupancy EP rates of D-Class hotels and upper and medium class guesthouses. Deluxe-A and A-, B-, and C-class hotels increased the tariff by 10 to 11.30%. 

Increase in bed and breakfast (CP) rates varies from 9.09% for a double room in a C-Class hotel to 14.29% for a single room in a D-Class hotel. 

The MAP tariff is up by 10-11% for all hotel rooms except single rooms in C-Class (11.54%) and D-Class (12.50%) hotels.  

Increase in AP tariff ranges from 9.09% for a double room in a D-Class hotel to 21.11% for a double room in a Deluxe-A hotel, the highest increase in all the categories. The increase for A-, B-, C-, and D-class hotels ranges from about 9 to 11%.
