The staff expected tips. We did pay tips.
The Nehru’s is a mid-end hotel located opposite Dal Lake and the Boulevard in Srinagar. We stayed in 30A, a spacious suite at the second floor on the last Diwali weekend, October 19-22, 2017. The suite comprises a living area, bedroom, and balcony.
The carpeted living area is appointed with a wide-screen television and clean sofa. The big glass windows open into the in-house lawn and the lake. The cupboard in the living area had enough clean towels and an electric kettle for hot tea, milk, and water.
The cozy carpeted bedroom was well-lit during night as well as during day because of powerful bulbs and a wall-wide glass windows overlooking the lake. From the bedroom, we could actually gaze at the lake shimmering in light of the electronic bulbs that brightened the shikaras after the sunset. The second door opened in the hotel corridor, ensuring the cross ventilation. Although it was cold and a ceiling fan was not required, the room had a table fan.
The ensuite bathroom has two doors, located opposite each other. Small tiled bathroom was almost clean. Water supply was more than adequate. The geyser offered hot water whenever we wanted. But, we missed one thing in the bathroom: exhaust fan.
Although the hotel was almost empty, the receptive staff honored our most of the requests: served food of our choice, made requested changes in cooking style, did some extra cleaning in the bathroom, and provided prompt room service.
Cleanliness was very good. However, furniture in the balcony required some extra cleaning, which was not done. The spacious balcony is a perfect place to watch the lake life.
Most of the time, in-house restaurant, Shangraf, served fresh healthy food. We were very happy to taste local dishes. The restaurant serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. It serves good quality drinking water free of cost. But if you want bottled water, you have to pay for it.
Another plus of the Nehru’s was correct timely information about the latest protests and the other unsafe activities going on in some parts of the city.
We will definitely stay here again.
