Officially the best season to visit Leh stretches from May to September. The peak tourist season comprises spring (May-June), summer (June-August), and autumn (September-October). But, why do these five months draw maximum tourists? One of the main reasons is relatively regular air and road transport services during this period. In fact, the tourist arrival just begins in May and trickles down in September. After October 15th, the bus and taxi services solely depend on the weather that usually renders the road network unusable.
However, the best time to explore Leh District depends directly on individual tastes and preferences. If travelers want to enjoy snowfall (December-February) and ice polo hockey and trek the traditional routes during rough winter for added adventure, winter (November-April) is the best time to visit the district. Culture lovers may choose any month of the year because traditional festivals are organized in different parts of the district in almost every month. Do remember, only flights land in Leh from various parts of India during winter.
