The Ministry of External Affairs (East Asia Division), India organizes Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (pilgrimage) every year between May / June and September for the Indian citizens between 18 and 70 years of age. This time-consuming arduous religious journey needs advance planning and excellent health and fitness. The process starts in December / January every year. The 27-day yatra is led by a liaison officer appointed by the ministry. Extra three days are required for visa, medical examination, financial formalities and other formalities.
The yatra cost includes INR 27,000.00 to be paid to Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), INR 5,600.00 towards medical examination conducted by Delhi Heart and Lung Institute and USD 750.00 to be paid to the Chinese government. Two medical tests are conducted: one atNew Delhi and other at Gunji (Uttarakhand).
It requires a bit of luck to be selected for the yatra, as the participants are selected based on a “computer-generated random gender-balanced process”.
You can browse through leading national newspapers for yatra advertisements and / or the ministry website in December and January for the details.
