Three Oracles of Nanda in Trance

August 21, 2014. Chandpurgarhi , Chamoli (L-R)  The boy in white shirt and long red scarf (dupatta), the woman in purple sari and long red scarf, and the girl with open hairs fall into trance. Colloquially  a trance means that “divine energy” surges in the bodies of fortunate devotees (devata aya). Under the impact of trance, devotees suddenly start jumping and dancing until the energy is dissipated.

The woman stuffs rice, sacrament (prasad), in the mouth of the girl because the sacrament is probably the best remedy to mitigate the impact of trance.
