Lala Maatu Ram Halwai’s banner reading “INR 40/- per piece of jalebi” in the Surajkund Crafts Mela (Feb1-15, 2010), Haryana, India may surprise you as it did me and many other visitors. Generally, a thin crisp sweet jalebi is about two (2) inches in diameter. However, Maatu’s each jalebi measured approximately six (6) inches in diameter and weighed about 250 grams. It was thick, crisp, and filled with hot sugar syrup. Yummy stomach-filling Maatu’s jalebi was worth the price quoted on the banner. If you are visiting the mela, buy one jalebi at least. Lala Maatu Ram Halwai, a popular sweet shop, is located in Gohana, Sonipat, Haryana.
