In August 2011, the railway bridge spanning the Chakki Stream was washed away because of flash floods. This bridge was restored in the end of March 2012. So, the narrow-gauge railway line between Pathankot (Punjab) and Joginder Nagar (Mandi in Himachal Pradesh) again became operational, allowing the Kangra Toy Train to chug through various tunnels dug into the hills and picturesque valleys of Himachal Pradesh (H.P.).

This train journey itself a destination. You can enjoy views of theDhauladharRangeand theKangraValley. The train passes by Billing and Bir known for hang gliding and paragliding. The rail track stretching from Bajinath to Joginder Nagar is probably the steepest part of the railway line.

Retail booking service is unavailable for the train. So, you have to grab your seat. However, if you are traveling in a big group, you can charter the train. Charter rate starts from INR 22, 206/- (one-way) for the train consisting of four first class bogies and one SLR cum Guard Van. Each first class bogie has 18 seats.
