Landslide interrupts Pathankot-Jogindernagar rail service
A landslide interrupted the 165-kilometer-long narrow gauge rail track between Pathankot (Punjab) and Jogindernagar (Mandi, Himachal Pradesh). The toy train service stopped because heavy downpour damaged the rail track at various places. The track near Kangra was affected the most.

Keylong hosts half marathon at 10,354 feet
Keylong in Lahaul Spiti District hosted a half marathon at an altitude of about 3,140 meters (10,354 feet) during 3-day tribal festival.

MoT to launch Himalayas campaign from Auli
The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), India might launch “777 days of the Indian Himalayas” campaign from the ski resort Auli, Uttarakhand on the World Tourism Day, September 28, 2013. The campaign is designed to attract foreign tourists to the Indian Himalayas, accounting for 73% of the Himalayas, during the summer season.
MoT also hosted a meeting to revive tourism in flood ravaged Uttarakhand. The highlights of the meeting include
- Facts about the state were brought to the knowledge of the participants: (1) Only 20% of the state was affected. (2) The remaining part is safe and open for the tourists.
- The state government would offer land to reconstruct the tourism infrastructure.
- A proposal to open the airstrips and operate more scheduled airline flights to the state was made.

Pre-World Cup Paragliding: Oct 24-30, 2013
Located in Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh, Bir-Billing, one the five leading paragliding sites in the world, would host Pre-World Cup Paragliding-2013 between October 24 and 30. Billing Paragliding Association (B.P.A.) and State Tourism department would make the arrangements for the event. Approximately 100 professional pilots, including 25 Indian pilots, would participate in the championship. The cash prize ranges from INR 40,000 to 250,000.
A standby helicopter would facilitate better handling of emergency situations during the championship. The hosts also planned a first of its kind paragliding acrobatic show during the event. Pre-World Cup Paragliding Championship website was launched to simplify the registration process.

More than 3.5 km of Rohtang Tunnel is laid
Approximately 3,700 meters of the Rohtang Tunnel has been laid. The work is in progress from both the sides: north and south. The North Portal is accessible only for six months, whereas the South Portal is open throughout the year. The 1,500 crore rupee all-weather tunnel project, started in 2010, would connect Lahaul-Spiti District with the world for all 12 months in a year.
