IRCTC Train Menu: Éclairs in Breakfast
My favorite mode of transport, especially for long journeys, is the Indian trains for four reasons: more legroom, pantry car, bedding, washrooms and guarantee of fewer jerks than in a bus ride. On many routes, train ticket price includes meals, morning tea and / or evening tea. However, menu requires some changes.
For instance, pantry of Kalka Shatabadi running between Kalka and Delhi via Chandigarh serves 2 Marie biscuits and tea in the early morning; and 2 white bread slices,10 gramsof Amul butter,10 gramsof Kissan mix fruit jam, 2 cutlets and 2 éclairs in vegetarian breakfast. Egg omelet replaces the cutlets in non-vegetarian breakfast.
However, I really wonder why Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd.(IRCTC) and its caterers serve this unhealthy and non-Indian breakfast. Moreover, éclairs do not make any sense at all. I have neither seen anybody eating éclairs in breakfast ever nor do I.
Diverse Indian cuisine traditions, in fact, offer many healthy, delicious breakfast options, including paratha, dhokla, idli, dosa, dal vada, chilla (pan cakes)… I will appreciate if white bread is replaced with brown and / or whole wheat bread, and éclairs and biscuits with a small seasonal fruit.
