Sikkim Warns Travel Service Providers; Bans Tourists until April 15, 2020

Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim took a number of measures to facilitate social distancing required to control novel corona virus spread.

March 19, 2020

The department advised guides, homestays, hotels, lodges, tour operators, tourist taxis, and travel agencies: Neither entertain tourists nor take bookings. If the travel service providers do not follow the advice, their licenses will be suspended besides a heavy fine.

March 17 and 18, 2020

Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim banned entry of all tourists until April 15, 2020 or further orders. Therefore, Check-Posts at Reshi, Ramman, and Uttarey have been closed for the visitors.

The department stopped operations of cable cars/ropeways at Namchi and Tsomgo Lake until further notice.

The department also advised tourists already in the State to go back to their home towns.

March 7, 2020

The department notification stated that 

“no single positive case of Corona Virus has been reported till date in the State.

In view of the above, it is to bring to notice that Sikkim is safe to travel but all domestic tourists are to submit “Self Reporting Form” which are available in all the Tourist Information Centres/Hotels/Homestays or other tourist establishments.”

The issuance of Inner Line Permit to foreign travelers was suspended.

The issuance of the Nathula Permit to domestic travelers was suspended.
