March 2012. Identification of Tourism Circuits across India: Interim Report, Kerala. IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.
This report identified potential destinations and tourist circuits located inKerala,Indiaand analyzed the carry capacity and infrastructure. The report highlighted that Kerala’s focus on tourism product development instead of destination development is key to success of the state tourism sector. For instance, the state supplemented its three main tourism products (beach holidays, backwater cruises and ayurveda trips) with subsidiary tourism products, including adventure, eco and wildlife tourism.
The authors suggested promoting trekking and other adventure activities in the vicinity of forest areas and hill stations in the state. The report identified three circuits for integrated development. The Circuit 1 covers Kozhikode-Malappuram-Nilambur-Wayanad-kannur-Bekal. In Kozhikode-Malappuram Sub-Circuit, Kadalundi has potential for both adventure and eco-tourism. Charming Tusharagiri with waterfalls can be developed as a trekking destination. The authors also proposed to develop trekking facilities including equipment store and camping sites in Wayanad.
