Discovery and Launch of Adventure Trips in Himalayas in Nov 2014

New Route for Kailash Mansarover Yatra

Sikkim Tourism Department planned first Kailash Mansarover Yatra via Nathula Pass from June 2015. Pilgrims thus have two route choices for the religious adventure trip: via Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathula Pass (Sikkim). The new route is relatively easier than the old one. Acclimatization center would be set up at Sherathang and 17th Mile.

The new short easy route may reduce pilgrim traffic to the old route, a genuine cause of concern for Uttarakhand. The current host mulls over strategies to retain the business. The state may introduce a sky-trek, helicopter service between Dharchula and Gunji villages in the Kumaon Himalayas for the next Kailash Mansarover Yatra.

New Canyon near Eastern Boundary of the Himalayas

In Tibet, a deep and old canyon has been discovered near the eastern boundary of the Himalayas. The Tsangpo Canyon is located along the course of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. The mountains of the Namche Barwa massif overlooks the canyon. The three-seven million years old canyon, buried under an over 500-meter-thick layer of sediments, is hundreds of meter deep at many places. The discovery compels geologists to rethink the existing theories defining quick development of steep slopes of the gorgeous Himalayan gorges.

The discovery is an opportunity for adventure travelers seeking virgin areas for exploration and new challenges to overcome.
