NTB participates in MITT
Nepal Tourism Board (N.T.B.) participated in the 5th largest exhibition “Moscow International Travel Tourism Exhibition (MITT) during March 20-23, 2013 to lure more Russian tourists.
Himalayan Drive 2013 concludes on March 24
The 3-day Himalayan Drive 2013 Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Rally concluded on March 24. The event, hosted by Just Sportz Management Private Limited with the government support, covered 400-kilometer-long road and trail in the Eastern Himalayas.
Kashmir department inaugurates Snow Festival in Sonamarg
The Department of Tourism Kashmir, Sonamarg Development Authority and Adventure Club of International Youth Hostel inaugurated 2-day Snow Festival in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir. The department organized a number of adventure activities, including skiing, snow baseball, snowboarding and snow zorbing. The first of its kind festival was mainly hosted to promote the meadow as a winter sports destination.

A shift in Bhaktapur tourist demographics
The demographics of tourists visiting Bhaktapur witnessed a major change. Until 2011, number of the Indian tourists was higher than the other tourists. However, the ancient town received more Chinese tourists than the Indian tourists in 2012. In 2011, the Indians accounted for 21% of total visitors to the town and the Chinese for 15%. Almost opposite of this happened in the 2012. The number of Chinese tourists recorded substantial increase. The Chinese tourists accounted for 21% of the total tourists visited to Bhaktapur in 2012 and the share of India fell to 17%.
Promotional fares for Kathmandu flight
AirAsia X, a part of the AirAsia Group, is offering discounts to commemorate its one hundredth flight to the capital of Nepal. The discount is valid for Kuala Lumpur-Kathmandu route. The air tickets should be purchased online during March 26 – April 1, 2013. The travel should be completed from April 15 to September 30, 2013. AirAsiaX Fly-thru services that would be available from May 1 connect Kathmandu to a number of Asian cities.
HPTDC earns profit of 3 crore
Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (H.P.T.D.C.) recorded gross profit of three crore rupees in fiscal year 2012-13. The gross profit target is set at six crore rupees for the next fiscal year.
HPTDC started a number of initiatives to promote tourism in the state. For instance, Wi-Fi was tested in the Volvo buses plying on Delhi-Shimla and Manali routes. The corporation entered into an agreement with Goa and Delhi Tourism corporations for booking each others’ hotels. Similar agreements would be signed with other state corporations as well. The corporation created a customer database featuring email addresses and mobile numbers to develop e-mail campaigns. The corporation also developed search engine optimization strategies. Marketing through social media is being considered.
