Adventure for the sake of setting a travel record

Such trips require shrewd planning and survival skills. The journey during winter ( January) involves different latitudes and longitudes requiring different type of attitude, gear and skills.

60th anniversary of the first successful climb of Everest 

On May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary successfully scaled the Mount Everest for the first time. This year sixtieth anniversary of the great feat would be celebrated on May 29. Adventure travel companies are designing special packages for the occasion. For instance, The Adventure Company is organizing an Everest expedition.

Mix adventure with business 

The uniqueness of SearchCycleIndia 2013 event is combining activity travel with “business /marketing.” The event is aimed at technology professionals, entrepreneurs and digital business community. During 25-day Gillian Muessig led event starting on January 5, 2013 from Red Fort (Delhi), the participants will bicycle across India to see places and discuss business.

550 crore loan for H.P. 

Government of India sanctioned Himachal Pradesh (H.P.) Development Policy Loan worth INR 550.00 crore. About 90% of the loan has already been transferred to the state. The World Bank loan would be used for sustainable development and green growth in different sectors, including tourism.

Guidelines for Kailash Mansarover Yatra 2013 

Government of India releases guidelines for Kailash Mansarover Yatra 2013 scheduled for June 9-Sep 9, 2013. The last date for submitting the online application is March 4, 2013. International Flower Show-Sikkim 2013 for flori-tourism 

Sikkim is organizing the 5-day International Flower Show-Sikkim 2013 from February 23, 2013. The show venue is Saramsa Garden in East Sikkim District.  The Garden is about fifteen kilometers from Gangtok, the state capital. The show would give a boost to flori-tourism.

Satbaran Caves are state protected monument 

The government of Jammu and Kashmir declared Satbaran Caves as a state protected monument. The caves, located in Kupwara District, features seven carved stone doors.

January 5, 2013 

Conductor-less buses for women in H.P. 

The government of Himachal Pradesh (H.P.) planned to introduce conductor-less buses for women in Dharamshala, Kangra, Shimla and some other big towns. The bus service would be available between 5 PM and 10 PM. The mobile number of the State Transport Minister would be displayed in the bus.

10% additional discount for women staying at H.P.T.D.C. properties 

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (H.P.T.D.C.) announced 10% additional discount for its female guests. They can also avail off-season discount. The special offer is valid from January 5- March 31, 2013.

  • H.P. proposed 25-km mono rail project worth INR 5,000 crore to decongest Shimla.
  • Tourist Informer launched “Tourist Informer” book, a travel guide for Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Jammu and Kashmir Chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) would host a week-long Kashmir Festival in the U.S.A.
  • The Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir would host Lori Festival on January 11, 2013.
  • During winter, snowfall and rain disrupt the road transport in Jammu and Kashmir. As a result, airfares soar, impacting the tourist flow.
  • Pakistan Museum of Natural History (P.M.N.H.) declared the Poonch River in Pakistan Controlled Jammu and Kashmir as Mashasheer National Park to preserve mahasheer.

January 6, 2013 

Helicopter service for tribal areas in H.P. 

The government of Himachal Pradesh (H.P.) took M/S Pawan Hans helicopters on lease to connect the tribal areas with major towns in the state. The helicopter service to Dodra Kwar in Shimla District would start on January 8, 2013. The service would also give access to tribal areas in Lahaul & Spiti and Chamba districts.
