TripAdvisor interviewed more than 1,000 Indian travelers to identify and analyze their adventure travel concerns and preferences and published Adventure Travel Survey 2014 report. The survey was conducted for the second time. The key findings of the survey follow:
More than 30% respondents enjoy the travel seasoned with excitement, risk, and thrill for “varied experiences.”
Undertaking adventure activities generates a sense of accomplishment and achievement among the travelers.
Travelers are confident about their fitness level. They believe that they are fit and prepared to enjoy adventure activities.
Cheap trips imply poor safety standards and quality of experience. Travelers may therefore pay more to buy an adventure holiday package from a certified travel agent.
Use of sub-standard equipment and low-level of accountability in case of accidents are main concerns of the travelers.
Approximately 70% travelers prefer to undertake active holidays with friends.
The number of travelers willing to go for an adventure trip has increased by 14% as compared to that (53%) in the last year.
They prefer soft adventure activities, including bird watching, hiking, trekking, and safaris.
High cost and / or poor level of trust in the domestic tour operators deter travelers from planning an extreme / hardcore adventure activity trip. For example, cost of high-altitude trekking trips is prohibitive in nature.
Goa, Rishikesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Leh and Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh are top five adventure destinations in India.
