New Face of Adventure Travel

Adventure travel is changing. The change is boosting growth in the segment. The latest segment-specific trends include:

  • A blend of luxury and adventure: Participate in hardcore adventure activities during day and rest in a plush hotel room in the night.
  • Travelers have bored with traditional “fly and flop” holidays.
  • Travelers prefer soft adventure activities.

BA Launches Yourope

British Airways (BA) launched Yourope, a “choose your European adventure” campaign. The airways collaborated with OpenSkies, American Airlines, Finnair, and Iberia to offer an inventory of numerous adventures in over one hundred destinations in Europe. New Homestays in Nandadevi Biosphere Reserve

Uttarakhand planned to create fifteen (15) homestays in Gamsali, Laata, and Niti villages in Nandadevi Biosphere Reserve to revive tourism after the June natural calamity. “Tour the Himalayas,” a Cycling Tour

Uttarakhand planned “Cycle for Life,” the first ever “Tour the Himalayas” within India, for November 17, 2013.  One-day event would start from Dehradun to pay tribute to people who bore the brunt of the major natural calamity of June 2013. The trail winds through the foothills of the Himalayas. The total prize money for the event amounts to INR 250,000. The event is a joint venture of the following:

  • The Mountain Track Biking Association (M.T.B.A.), Uttarakhand,
  • Cycling Federation of India (C.F.I.) http://cyclingfederationofindia.org/new/, and
  • Artsmith Concepts and Visions https://www.facebook.com/www.artsmith.in.

The Indian Army, the Government of Uttarakhand, and Life Insurance Corporation would also support the event consisting of three categories: (1) the teens (10 kilometers), (2) the amateurs (15 kilometers), and (3) the elite riders (20 kilometers). Flo-Llangollen Festival to Promote Adventure Activities

The three-day Flo-Llangollen Festival began on November 16, 2013 to promote adventure activities in the Dee Valley, the United Kingdom. During the “taster sessions,” visitors can enjoy kayaking and mountain biking. In 2010, investments were also made for promoting adventure and outdoor activities in the valley, which is not frequented by adventure travelers. However, the valley has good potential for hill walking, climbing, abseiling etc. The event is a collective effort of the following:

  • River Legacy
  • Cadwyn Clwyd
  • The Clwydian Range
  • Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A.O.N.B.)
