NOLS Introduces Wilderness Medicine Courses in India

The U.S.-based National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) introduced wilderness medicine courses consisting of theory and field work in India.

A two-day Wilderness First Aid (W.F.A.) course is designed for outdoor lovers, including camp staff and trip leaders.

The five-day Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course is developed for people traveling to remote locations. The advance course teaches evacuation and treatment in backcountry.

The ten-day Wilderness First Responder (W.F.R.) course is designed for outdoor guides accompanying travelers visiting remote areas.

Gulmarg to Host Winter Sports Festival 2014

Jammu and Kashmir (J & K) would organize the Winter Sports Festival in Gulmarg during February 2014 to promote tourism. During the season, the Winter Games Federation of India would also host National Skiing Championship in Gulmarg.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture (J & K) is actively preparing for the event to ensure safe and smooth affairs. The ministry may send skiing trainers abroad to hone the skills. The government would offer an incentive of up to 700,000 rupees to private players willing to promote skiing in Gulmarg.

Vana Forms Trade Partnership with Tour Operators

Vana Retreats formed a trade partnership with some of the best tour operators from the United Kingdom for its new property in Dehradun. The partners include Scott Dunn, Health Holidays, Greaves Travel, Ampersand, and Abercrombie and Kent. The new resort Vana, Malsi Estate would open for public in January 2014.

Leading Adventure Travel Companies Launch Yomads

The Australian World Expeditions, the Dutch SNP Natuurreizen, and the Swiss Baumeler Reisen formed a new adventure company Yomads Travel in November 2013. Yomads caters to “youthful travelers” who are in their 20s and 30s, the untapped segment of adventure travel market. The new company would provide a wide range of adventure activity itineraries for the targeted group from March 2014. The itineraries would cover Alaska, Cambodia / Laos, China, India, Indonesia, Namibia, Nepal…

Sikkim to Host Winter Carnival 2013

Incredible India (Government of India), the Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, and local stakeholders from the tourism sector planned three-day Sikkim Winter Carnival 2013 to promote tourism. The carnival would start on December 22. Various events and programs would take place at Kanchendzonga Shopping Complex, Ridge Park, and Titanic Park. For example,

  • A parade by locals in traditional costumes
  • Fashion Show
  • Local Food
  • Rock Climbing at Sellep Tanki
  • Paragliding from Ani Gompa
  • Bakthang Fall traverse
  • Butter sculpture

ACT Citizens Like Adventure Holidays

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) citizens prefer holidays in off the beaten tracks and less known destinations to popular or top places. For example, the citizens show least interest in Bali. They like to go for adventure activity holiday with their families. They prefer Asia and Pacific to Europe. Some of the adventure seekers opt for adventure holidays in the Himalayas.

Nutrition for Adventure Activities

This research report focuses on nutrition requirements for an adventure activity holiday in backcountry. The report explains the nutrition basics in simple and lucid manner. Highlights of the report include:

  • Each gram of carbohydrates produces four calories.
  • Carbohydrates are main food for the brain.
  • Amino acids, fundament units of protein, do not give instant energy.
  • A hiker uses 1,779 to 2,449 calories during a five-hour hiking session.
  • A skier uses 2,064 to 2,858 calories for a five-hour skiing session.
  • Calorie deficit of 3,500 equals to loss of one pound weight.
