>50% States and >70% UTs Didn’t Go for Mountaineering Holidays during 2010-14

Out of 29 Indian states, only thirteen (13 | 44.82%) states went for mountaineering holidays during the study period spanning from 2010 to 2014.

Only two (2) union territories went for this type of adventurous holidays.

Interestingly, the states that organized the holidays are scattered in all regions: north, east, south, and west. But the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh did not show any interest in climbing.

Out of four Himalayan states, mountaineers from only two states went for mountaineering expeditions. This indicates that

  • Interest in local attractions is limited.
  • Proximity to peaks does not always inspire to climb.

These findings raise more questions requiring further research to find answers. For example, what are the prohibiting factors?
