Popular and reliable  Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) is one of the best options to learn ice, rock and snow climbing in India. NIM, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakashi district of Uttarakhand, imparts training in the Himalaya. Many noted mountaineers, including Chandra Prabha Aitwal, Bachendri Pal and Santosh Yadav, acquired mountaineering skills at this institute.

The institute has 15-meter high Himalayan Artificial Climbing Wall, a gymnasium, graduation ground, hostel, library, museum, an equipment store and basketball and volleyball courts.

Its both Basic and Advance mountaineering courses (BMC and AMC) offer hands-on experience. The fee for 28-day BMC amounts to INR 5,000.00 for the Indian participant and $650.00 for a foreign participant.  The corresponding fee for the 15-day Adventure Course is INR 3,000.00 and $350.00.
