I spent about 10 hours in the Room No 305 of the Welcome Residency Hotel in Chandigarh on March 22-23, 2017. The room in Sector 35-C was quiet despite being in the busy market area and facing the main road. I booked the room through Oyorooms for a quality experience. However, the en suite washroom was a complete disappointment. In the first place, the washroom looked clean but it was smelly and it was not so clean. When I used it I found out the source of smell, damp moldy ceiling and upper sections of the walls. The washroom was too dark and small. The in-washroom washbasin was not fixed properly. The drainage was slow.
Living and sleep areas were more than average but not good. The bed was clean and comfortable. However, the air conditioner was noisy. I could open the part of the big window for better ventilation. Since the window did not have any mesh / grill, I could not leave it open in night. So no fresh air in the night.
Food, both dinner and complimentary breakfast, was well prepared. But there was an issue with breakfast timing. The hotel kitchen opens at 8 am. But after repeated requests I was served breakfast around 7:20 am because I had to leave at 7:30 am. So I packed two aloo parathas with pickles and returned the curds. I requested for RO water consumed by the hotel staff. But I was told it was not good and given one complimentary water bottle. I think every hotel and restaurant should serve free good quality drinking water.
Service was not reliable for two reasons. Firstly, the receptionist did not know about the neighborhood. I asked him location of Sagar Ratna, a pure vegetarian restaurant in the same sector. He gave me wrong directions. He asked me to go towards Gopal Sweets (SCO 459-460). But Sagar Ratna is in exactly opposite direction. Sagar Ratna (SCO 488) is a few shops away from the hotel (SCO 471-472). Secondly, the receptionist specifically told me that I should give good feedback, at least 4 or 5 points. But I do not think the hotel deserves these many stars. It deserves 2.5 to 3 points. Here are the pictures to support my review and rating.
I will not stay at this hotel (INR 1,701 per person, per night) again because there is no dearth of hotels in Chandigarh.
