Manali has a small congested bus stand within easy walking distance of the Mall Road and HPTDC Beas Hotel. The stand surrounded by haphazardly constructed buildings offers only basic amenities during daytime. Let’s check what to expect from HRTC Bus Stand in Manali.
Information counters at the bus stand open at 05:00 and close at 21:30 daily because they do not have staff for the night shift. So, do not expect any help and light in night.
The advance reservation counter offers computerized bus tickets for a cash payment. The tickets can be booked at least one month prior to the date of the journey.
The office actually answers the calls from passengers. I have used their telephone services for bus service information a number of times.
The onsite cloak room offers luggage storage services from 06:00 to 22:00 daily. The room charges ₹ 30 per piece of luggage.
Vegetable and fruit vendors lay their wares at and near the bus stand.
Tea is also easily available at the stand.
A number of state-run roadway buses from different parts of the country drop at and pick up passengers from the bus stand. For example, Haryana Roadways, Punjab Roadways, Chandigarh Transport, and Delhi Roadways besides Himachal Pradesh Roadways link the State with rest of the country.
Private buses also share the space.
Although office does not open in the night, buses arrive at and depart from the stand 24*7.
A small newspaper stall sells newspapers and magazines.
Porterage service is also available. Porters offer two services:
- carrying luggage from platforms to buses and
- placing the luggage on the top of the bus if required.
