When to ski in Kullu Valley

Although snowfall begins in October-November in the Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh,India, snow accumulates and temperature plummets below zero degree in January.  Snowline varies from 2,100 to 2,500 meters depending on the location. The high quality deep powder snow covers the mountains. You can enjoy skiing at the lower altitude during January.

Since February receives more precipitation, snow cover is deeper. You can ski at the higher altitude during this month.

Springtime (April) is the best season for skiing as snow and weather conditions are predictable. Avalanches are less. Depth of the snow pack reaches the maximum level. However, the amount of snowfall also determines the skiing time.

May is another ideal month for skiing but a lot depends on weather conditions. May is good for high altitude skiing, including the lofty peaks.

Skiing can also be done in the beginning of the winter season on high altitude, but it will be risky due to shallow snow cover, which is more prone to avalanches. Shallow snow cover does not fill the crevasses and obstacles completely, increasing the risk. December experiences sudden change in weather. Strong winds and heavy snowfall make skiing difficult in the month. Get information about skiing programs organized at Solang in Kullu Valley.
